History
Harlan Jareth Ryan, Jr. was born one day shy of Valentine's Day in 1968. Despite the fact that he made his grand entrance into the world on the 13th, his mother still always called him her Valentine baby. Quite honestly though, there wasn't much cute or cherubic about Harlan. He was always fussy and in one mood or another. As the baby grew into a child, it became clear that he had inherited his father's mutant abilities. His mother had hoped they somehow wouldn't pass onto her child but her hopes had been in vain.
At age six, Harlan managed to turn himself into a shrub while on the run from bullies and his life hadn't ever been the same since. The next time, he turned the bullies into soccer balls and had fun kicking them around for a good hour before turning them back and sending them on their way, covered in bruises. The only stern talking to big Harlan ever gave his son was that he needed to keep his abilities in check and not display them gratuitously. He threatened the boy that if anyone ever found out what he truly was, he would be taken away forever.
One thing little Harlan had that big Harlan didn't was super intelligence. He could write his name and speak in full sentences before his first birthday. His instructors called him a genius when he began elementary school, but his mother chose to keep him in the right grade level all the way up until she passed away when he was in the fourth grade, working on college level maths and sciences in his spare time.
When his mother passed away, his father gave the boy up to one of his aunts to be raised, not really caring much about having anything to do with his son. The aunt enrolled Harlan in a private boy's school where he spent his two years there hiding who he was. For the most part, Harlan lived the life of a normal kid. Well, a genius kid, anyhow.
He graduated from college at age 15, the boy's school having let him go on to pursue higher academia when they realized that they had nothing to intellectually stimulate Harlan any longer. With his degree in Psychology from UMass, Harlan went to Med School. He was slated to graduate in '91 at age 23 with degrees in Counseling, Psychotherapy, and an M.D, but his plans were slightly interrupted when big Harlan showed back up in '87, announcing that he'd joined up with a group called Upsilon and that little Harlan needed to come too. After a strange summer with his father, he returned back to school and managed to complete his degrees on time. Upon graduation, he became an official member of Upsilon.
Personality
Harlan can come off as somewhat of an asshole most of the time. He might not say that he thinks he's better than you but he definitely thinks so. He has no tolerance for stupidity or petty drama. He is quick to call people out on their bullshit but he is fiercely loyal to his friends. Harlan has a bit of a foul temper that he has gotten pretty good at controlling when he is with clients/patients, but in his own personal life, he is more likely to let loose at will and just give over to his anger. Honestly, he most likely needs a shrink of his own, not that he'd ever man up and go. He's pretty much the king of double standards.

Powers
Harlan has the ability to change the atomic and subatomic structure of matter. He can rearrange the particle and create new objects with different atomic characteristics. He can change wood to steel, fire to water, and himself and others into anything he chooses as long as they are generally the same size. The objects stay that way until he changes them back. He is able to use his powers to aid with healing and many of the Upsilon team comes to him for his psychiatric services as well as his healing services. Recently, Harlan decided to attempt an experiment in changing his own molecular structure to stop aging for the time being. He's decided that he's enjoying 42 so much that he'd like to stay this age for awhile. So far, it seems to be working. He has also been classified with superhuman intelligence.
Weaknesses
When Harlan is in the middle of a temper tantrum, sometimes his body will morph out from under him and he will be stuck in that state until he calms down enough to be able to focus on shifting back. This has made for a few humorous situations (at least for those viewing it. Not so much for Harlan.) During these times, generally the thing he morphs into is whatever object is nearest to him.

dinvisible's father, although he doesn't know it yet.
dormoused's therapist. He sees Darva seperately from Hadley but also makes them do couples counseling since they are raising a daughter together.
hca's therapist. He's been seeing Hadley since he was 15 but now he also sees him with Darva for couples counseling.
juchase's partner in oldness. She's been around Omicron for ages and he's been around Upsilon for ages. They've seen plenty of each other over the years.
marksman's possible therapist.
rosenbluth's future therapist. Is generally annoyed by him most of the time for right now.
ruko's former therapist.
widdicombe's nemesis. After Tobey thwarted a break in that Harlan was in charge of, Harlan took revenge in the most petty way possible. He duct taped Tobey naked to a streetlight just before dawn one morning. Everyone walking to work sure got an eyeful.
